What I'm thinking about my vocation right now.

So retreat is in eight days. I'm so ready for it I really can't wait! Life has been kind of crazy lately and it's starting to get me down. I'm just so ready for a break from it all. Yet at the same time I'm almost dreading it because it means I have to actually articulate what's in my heart to someone I've never met before and I'm really not good at that. It's so much easier for me to type or write what's on my heart then for me to actually say it face to face to someone. I guess the reason I'm posting this is just to get it out. I've been holding this in for way to long. Please keep me in your prayers.

Hi Betsy,

I just went through the same thing myself: I visited the monastery of the Congregation of the Passion, in Pittsburgh. I had been talking about my discernment of priesthood to different people for a little while, and journaling as much as I could as well (I encourage you to do that also!). It was quite different talking with the Passionists themselves, though -- like you I was nervous going in...it helped to keep in mind what had inspired me from the beginning: Christ's great sacrifice on the Cross. It helped that this actually happens to be the Passionist motto: "may the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ be always on our hearts." It certainly made me feel I was at the right place.
I also went to the monastery for a bit of a silent retreat: I ended up getting a very fulfilling glimpse of the Passionists that, I feel, has set the tone for the rest of my discernment.

Anyways, that sense of urgency you feel is very familiar to me...I also feel that I've "been holding this in way too long." Especially given the urgency of the Church's mission...I think we both understand there's no time to waste! If you're anything like me, the wise advice-givers in your life are constantly reminding you to be in waiting for the Lord's command, because you're more than ready to rush into things headlong...

I'll certainly be praying for you. People discerning any vocations, especially religious & clerical, need all the prayers we can get. I think we all make very good intercessors for each other. :)

in His Cross,

Wow, you described me exactly when you said "You're more then ready to rush into things headlong." Thank you so much for the prayers and the wonderful reminders. I will keep you in my prayers as well.

Betsy, when you say you've been holding it in for so long, you make me worried. Please tell me you DO have a spiritual director or regular confessor to help you with your vocation discernment!
